Motor vehicles
This division deals with disputes about vehicles that are used primarily for private use, and a ‘motor vehicle’ can mean a new or used car, motorcycle, tractor or other powered vehicle on wheels.
The maximum claim in the Motor Vehicles division is $30,000, except when the dispute relates to the purchase of a new motor vehicle used for private purposes and then orders can be made for any sum of money.
Applications
Consumers who have a dispute about a new or used motor vehicle purchased from a motor dealer, or who are unhappy with repairs done to their vehicle, can lodge an application in the Motor Vehicles division.

Applications to the Motor Vehicles division are intially referred to the Office of Fair Trading to find out if there is any assistance they can give before the hearing. An Inspector from the Office of Fair Trading may contact the parties about the dispute to help resolve the problem.
