Our organisation

The Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal (CTTT) is an independent statutory body established by the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal Act 2001. 

The CTTT is administered by the NSW Department of Finance and Services, Fair Trading Division. The Chairperson reports to the Minister for Fair Trading on the operations of the CTTT. The Deputy Chairperson (Registry and Administration) reports to the Chairperson for operational matters and to the Commissioner for Fair Trading for the CTTT's corporate activities.

The Chairperson is responsible for the operation and management of the CTTT's work.  This includes Tribunal Member performance, the application of a Code of Conduct for Tribunal Members and issuing Chairperson's Directions to ensure that CTTT procedures are fair, informal and as speedy as practicable.

Deputy Chairperson (Determinations)

The Deputy Chairperson (Determinations) is responsible for the CTTT's adjudication function and assists the Chairperson in the management of the Membership.

The Deputy Chairperson (Registry and Administration) is a non-sitting Member of the CTTT and is responsible for its financial, administrative and Registry functions. 

Tribunal Members

CTTT hearings are conducted by Tribunal Members.  Tribunal Members are independent statutory officers who make decisions according to law on the basis of the evidence presented before them.

CTTT Registry and Administrative Units

The CTTT's Registry and Administrative Units consist of the following four key areas of performance and accountability: 

  • Tribunal Registry: Provides case management and operational support to the CTTT's dispute resolution and hearing functions, including processing applications, listing hearings, maintaining file records, issuing notices and orders, warrants and certified money orders, and providing copies of written reasons for decisions.
  • Continuous Improvement:  Education and information services, policy and program development, quality assurance and performance reporting, legal support and library services
  • Business Development:  Delivery of technological solutions for improved service delivery, performance reporting and support to Tribunal Members and staff
  • Resources and Executive Services Unit:  Provides high level support to the Minister, Chairperson, Commissioner for Fair Trading and CTTT executive; responding to complaints and media enquiries.  Also manages the CTTT's human resources, financial resources and administrative services, and compliance with the NSW Department Finance and Service’s governance and general operating requirements.
