About us

Photo of CTTT signageThe Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal (CTTT) commenced operation on 25 February 2002.

The CTTT was formed as a merger of the former Fair Trading Tribunal and the Residential Tribunal to create a ‘super tribunal’ aimed at improving consumer dispute resolution in New South Wales.

Our purpose

The CTTT is an independent decision making body.  Its primary function is to resolve disputes about the supply of goods and services, and issues relating to residential property.  Orders issued by Tribunal Members are legally enforceable.

The CTTT's powers, functions and procedures are set out in the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal Act 2001 and the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal Regulation 2009.

  • the CTTT is accessible
  • its proceedings are efficient and effective
  • proceedings are determined in an informal, expeditious and inexpensive manner
  • decisions are fair and consistent.

Our jurisdiction

The CTTT has jurisdiction to resolve disputes brought to its nine divisions - Tenancy, Social Housing, Home Building, General, Residential Parks, Strata and Community Schemes, Motor Vehicles, Commercial and Retirement Villages.
